M&M

DM Rhodes
Deal, November 2009

Americans will remember the old M&M marketing phrase: they melt in your mouth, not in your hands. And not on the beach apparently.

It Gets Everywhere

Jan Cormack
Double Bluff Beach, Whidbey Island, July 2007

Sand got in the lens cover and made it stick half way.

Gear

Jan Cormack
Deal, England, March 2007

How to capture crawling crustaceans: these pots were stacked on the beach at Deal.

Rockcliffe Beach, Southwest Scotland, October 2010

These three beautiful stones were photographed as found.

Fall Colours

DM Rhodes
Horse Isles Bay, Southwest Scotland October 2010
I thought the brown, gold, and bronze colours of this crab shell were lovely.

Metal Name Tag

DM Rhodes
Rockcliffe Beach, Southwest Scotland, October 2010
I liked how this bit of metal seemed to blend in with it's surroundings.

Flint

I ask you :
how can you maintain
there is no life
or feeling
in a stone ?

I have this flint
in my hand : look
in two bits it might
be a heart
that broke.

Happy Accident

Jan Cormack
Double Bluff Beach, Whidbey Island, 2008

I was taking a shot of some nicely gnarly driftwood when a dog galloped into the frame.

Oysters Anyone?

DM Rhodes
Whitstable Beach, Kent, November 2009

Whitstable is famous for its oysters. I loved all the bright colours in the foreground, leading to the bleak grey sea background.

Groyne

Jan Cormack
Hastings Beach, East Sussex, 22 April 2008

This is one of the concrete groynes (yes, they're really called that) which hold in check the eastward shingle drift. We're looking directly south to France. "Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance? The farther away from England, the nearer it is to France." (Alice in Wonderland).

Red Clothespin

Carsethorn Beach, Southwest Scotland, October 2010

There is no shortage of man-made beach debris.

The Beach Comb

DM Rhodes
Carsethorn Beach, Southwest Scotland, October 2010

I found it partially hidden. I thought at first it was a bit of amber sea glass. It wasn't, but the consolation was what a clever visual joke it makes.
