Beachcomber Checklist

Here are a few questions to think about when beach-combing:

Preparedness:

Am I wearing appropriate gear for the weather conditions (sturdy shoes, sun hat, sunblock, rain gear)?
Did I bring a container or bag for my treasures that can be washed or rinsed easily?
Do I have my camera? Is it charged fully (or do I have extra batteries)?
Did I bring a sack for rubbish?

Safety:

Am I well enough aware of the tidal conditions at this beach?
Am I paying attention to my footing as I look for my treasures?
Am I paying attention to the water?
Am I aware of what I should and shouldn't touch for my safety?

Ethics:

Am I allowed to take things from this beach?
Should I take things from this beach?
Am I unreasonably disturbing any ecosystems by beach-combing here?
Are there any endangered species at this beach?
Have I done my bit for conservation today?

Enhanced Experience:

Is there a park or beach ranger around I could ask questions of?
Are there any other beachcombers here to compare notes with?
Do I have field guides or other material with me to look up information?

After Arriving Home:
